The Best Lego Sets for Adults

My journey into the world of adult Lego began in secrecy. I’d sneakily buy sets and build them behind closed doors, relishing the nostalgic joy they brought. However, if guests were due to stay over, I’d hastily stash them away, much like one might hurriedly hide scattered dirty laundry.

Soon, I embraced my Lego passion, realizing that anyone who didn’t appreciate the joy it brought me wasn’t worth my time. The stigma around adults enjoying Lego began to dissolve, especially after 2020 when Lego started labelling sets with an 18+ age recommendation, recognizing the adult fanbase that was already flourishing. Adults were not only building incredible creations but also sharing them at conventions, and running influential blogs and YouTube channels. Lego for adults has firmly established itself as a mainstream hobby, akin to puzzles, offering a blend of tranquil focus and creative energy.

For newcomers hesitant about the investment due to high prices, let me give you a glimpse of what awaits in several popular adult Lego sets.

Selection and Evaluation Process

Selecting Lego sets for adults is subjective, as one person’s dream build might be another’s disappointment. Despite the wide variety of themes, the best sets are often those that resonate personally.

Our selection isn’t just random. I meticulously assessed each set’s building experience. I considered whether the building process was monotonous, if familiar pieces were used innovatively, and if the final product was impressive enough for display.

While personal taste influenced my choices, I was fortunate to have a diverse group of Lego-enthusiast colleagues who offered varied viewpoints. Many had also built the sets featured in our final list.

We’ve dedicated separate guides for the Lego Botanical series and Lego sets for children, reviewed by kids. There’s also an in-depth look into the world of Adult Fans of Lego (AFOLs) and a guide on cleaning Lego bricks. This guide focuses on sets rated 18+, but when choosing a Lego gift for an adult, consider their interests over the age rating (but do keep a keen eye on the price tag. We haven’t seen a Lego set breach the £1,000 mark yet, but it seems inevitable).
